The service is part of an extended hours service that the practice is providing specifically for patients who find it difficult to come in during the week due to work or other commitments. IT IS NOT FOR EMERGENCY APPOINTMENTS. Anyone who needs to be seen on a Saturday morning urgently should contact the Out of Hours Service at Waters Meeting on 386655.

Dr. Jay is now able to REMOVE contraceptive implants and, if required, fit a new implant at the same time here at the surgery. If you are interested in having an implant REMOVED (not fitted), please book a telephone consultation with Dr. Jay. If however you would like an implant fitting for the first time, in the very short term you will need to contact the Family Planning Service on 390771 however Dr. Jay will shortly be providing this service here.

***Calling all patients aged 40 and over who DO NOT have diabetes or heart disease and have not had a stroke - have you had your blood pressure and cholesterol checked within the last 5 years? - if not you are entitled to a free check at the surgery. Please ring reception and ask for a 20 minute appointment with one of the Nurses who will check these for you - there is no need to fast before the appointment***

THE PRACTICE STAYS OPEN UNTIL 7.30PM ON A WEDNESDAY EVENING AND OPENS EVERY SATURDAY FROM 9.30AM UNTIL 11.00AM. These appointments are specifically for patients who find it difficult to attend normal appointments due to work or other commitments, it is for this reason that requests for a same day urgent appointment will still be directed to the out of hours Doctors at Waters Meeting as before.

The practice has an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, called Cath Povall who assists the Doctors in consulting patients. She is a highly qualified practitioner who will be able to help with, and write prescriptions for, a range of conditions such as chest problems, gynaecology problems, sore throats, coughs, colds, urinary infections, ear, eye and skin problems and many other areas. When patients call reception in future, they will be offered an appointment with the Advanced Nurse Practitioner as an alternative to seeing a Doctor should they wish to.

Inside our Surgery

The practice operates from Egerton and Dunscar Health Centre in Bromley Cross. It covers an area which originally included Edgworth, Bromley Cross and Harwood Villages. In years gone by there were 3 surgeries in each of these villages but now all patients attend Egerton and Dunscar Health Centre.

The practice has 4 Doctors; Dr. Stephen Liversedge who has been in practice in the Turton area since 1982,
Dr. Lawrence Wong who joined the practice in 2006, Dr. Michael McCurdie who re-joined the practice in 2007 and Dr. Uma Jayakumar who started working at the practice in 2010. She currently holds four surgeries each week.

There is one full-time and one 2 part-time Practice Nurse and an Assistant Practitioner. The practice also has an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.

The practice has a Practice Manager, an Assistant Practice Manager, and Office Manager and 6 receptionists.

The practice subcribes to the principals of the patients' rights and responsibilities as laid out in the National Plan. They are as follows:-

Our commitment to you

We want the NHS to be a high-quality health service. These are our aims as set out in the NHS Plan.

The NHS will provide a universal service for all based on clinical need, not ability to pay.

The NHS will provide a comprehensive range of services.

The NHS will shape its services around the needs and preferences of individual patients, their families and their carers.

The NHS will respond to different needs of different populations.

The NHS will work continuously to improve quality services and to minimise errors.

The NHS will support and value its staff. Public funds for healthcare will be devoted solely to NHS patients.

The NHS will work together with others to ensure a seamless service for patients.

The NHS will help keep people healthy and work to reduce health inequalities.

The NHS will respect the confidentiality of individual patients and provide open access to information about services, treatment and performance.

Your Responsibilities

The NHS will work better if you use the service responsibly.

Do what you can to look after your own health, and follow advice on a healthy lifestyle.

Care for yourself when appropriate. (For example, you can treat yourself at home for common ailments such as coughs, colds and sore throats.)

Give blood if you are able, and carry an organ donor card or special needs card or bracelet.

Listen carefully to advice on your treatment and medication. Tell the doctor about any treatments you are already taking.

Treat NHS staff, fellow patients, carers and visitors politely, and with respect. We will not accept violence, racial, sexual or verbal harassment.

Keep your appointment or let the GP, dentist, clinic or hospital know as soon as possible if you cannot make it.
Book routine appointments in plenty of time.

Return any equipment that is no longer needed.

Pay NHS prescription charges and any other charges promptly when they are due and claim financial benefits or exemptions from these charges correctly.
